  • Overview

    The Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst provides test management of test-plan creation and execution within scrum work environment.  Grinnell Mutual does not provide sponsorship for visas.


    • Designs, develops, and defines test cases, test plans, and scope based on the specification requirements of the end user to ensure quality and performance outcomes. Incorporates system, regression, and quality performance levels through use of a consistent testing methodology.


    • Executes tests and analyzes outcome to ensure new and updated applications meet or exceed quality standards and user requirements before released to a production environment. Ensures the product is usable, reliable, and valid to support the needs of the end user.


    • Identifies and reports testing results to ensure functionality, quality, and quantity standards are met. Collaborates with development team and manger to determine appropriate solutions and retests corrections to ensure problems are resolved.


    • Documents status of testing per industry and organizational standard methodologies to ensure highest quality results and replication. Logs, tracks, and verifies resolution of software and specific defects against user criteria.


    • Coaches or mentors less experienced software QA analysts to guide them with specific projects, policies, procedures, and career endeavors.  


    • Participates and contributes in all assigned meetings and collaboration efforts to ensure highest probability of success for team. May occasionally lead meetings.


    • Gathers metrics and data for measurement of software development processes, identifies gaps, and contributes to solutions. Identifies risks and determines best way to minimize its effects through information and facts gathered.


    • Maintains current knowledge of the field and applies knowledge to work product. Shares information with others to create a best-in-class QA solution.


    • All other duties as assigned.

    • May be required to work outside of typical work hours to meet strict deadlines associated with projects. During times of conversion or system implementation, may be required to work weekends or non-typical work hours.


    • The position is physically located in the home office with a work environment of a typical office setting; noise level is relatively quiet and occasional stress is encountered as deadlines approach. The position requires an individual to sit for long periods of time at a computer monitor. Requires visual acuity and repetitive movement.


    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other related field and minimum of two years software QA experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Claims or Guidewire ClaimCenter knowledge preferred.


    • Intermediate experience with IT industry standard test management and test automation tools required. Advanced experience testing client/server and web-based applications. General knowledge of testing methodologies including agile, waterfall, and iterative SDLCs.


    • Experience in all phases of software QA testing and documentation. Must be able to implement and document test plans and scripts. Ability to create automated tests using an automated testing tool with experience scripting/setting up reusable test function sets


    • Experience using SQL plus experience with SQL Database Query Analyzer preferred. Ability to create automated tests using an automated testing tool with experience scripting/setting up reusable test function sets.


    • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, schedule, and meet deadlines while managing multiple medium to large projects. Must be able to work with multiple interruptions.


    • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor others in quality assurance best practices. Must be able to work with audiences with various levels of information about the subject matter and confirm knowledge transfer.


    • Ability to demonstrate good interpersonal, listening, and customer service skills to assist end users with product, errors/issues, provide instruction, and walk through software products via phone or email.


    • Demonstrated initiative and persistence in follow-through with customers, testing, and conversion projects.


    • Working knowledge of insurance policies and endorsements associated with personal, commercial, and reinsurance lines of business preferred. Willingness to develop a working knowledge of industry and Grinnell Mutual specific business practices. Must be able to appropriately apply learned knowledge as it relates to responsibilities of this position.


    • Understands and incorporates software development methodologies and documentation standards. Ability to use known information and reasonable assumptions to create and recommend solutions.


    • Ability to work in a harmonious manner with coworkers, supervisor, customers, and public. Must be able to work collaboratively in a team setting.


    • Ability to maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.


    • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
