  • Overview

    To effectively coach and lead Agile teams in delivery of high quality solutions while emphasizing collaboration, team self-management and ensuring flexibility to adapt to the Agile principles to achieve the business goals of Grinnell Mutual. 


    • Leads and fosters communication and collaboration amongst the team and stakeholders and effectively coaches team to be self-organizing and cross functional. 


    • Collaborates with the Product Owner and the Team to successfully complete committed user stories and ensures quality deliverables of incremental working software that is of the highest priority.  


    • Utilizes meetings and other forms of communication to identify, track and remove impediments while minimizing various organizational distractions and interferences.


    • Facilitates sprint ceremonies ensuring agile principles are embraced and adhered to. Inspects and adapts after each sprint to support continuous team improvement.


    • Creates and maintains metrics and artifacts such as sprint health, velocity, sprint burn ups in order to support release planning and strategic long term planning.


    • Leads teams to self-organization, transformation and change through challenging the status quo and motivating others to deliver on commitments and think creatively.  


    • Communicates and updates teams and stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment with project priorities.


    • Assesses Agile maturity of the team and coaches the team to higher levels of maturity to achieve goals and drive teams to be high performing.


    • Performs all other duties as assigned.



    Working Conditions and Physical Efforts:

    • The Scrum Master may be required to work outside of core business hours.


    • The position is physically located in the home office with a work environment of a typical office setting; noise level is relatively quiet and occasional stress is encountered as deadlines approach. The position requires an individual to sit for long periods of time, use repetitive motion, and possess visual acuity.


    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in technology or other related field required with hands on experience leading Agile teams preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


    • CSM, PMI or other related certification required. 


    • Experience with software management tools such as Jira or Rally preferred.


    • Demonstrated expertise of Agile development, Agile methodologies (i.e. SCRUM, KanBan) and related iterative software development best practices required. 


    • Demonstrated communication skills in both oral and written formats to increase understanding regardless of audiences, technical abilities or status within the organization. Actively listens to gain information, increase understanding and build relationships. Maintains transparency with information and knowledge to ensure work is completed efficiently.  


    • Must be able to facilitate discussion that represents all perspectives of a situation and bring the group to consensus to move forward in united direction. Must negotiate and mitigate conflict in a professional manner. 


    • Thorough understanding of technology and business. Ability to apply knowledge into work product. Proven ability to analyze technical information, evaluate products, services and vendors, and make recommendations based on goals of project and organization. 


    • Ability to plan and organize time to be successful in environment of multiple deadlines and interruptions. Must be able to motivate others and reach success through their accomplishments. Must be able to respond and adjust to dynamic requirements, processes, and resources.   


    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary company, customer and client information.  


    • Ability to work in a harmonious manner with co-employees, agents, vendors, and supervisor.


    • Ability to work with minimum supervision.


    • Ability to keep regular work schedule and maintain regular, predictable attendance.
