  • Overview

    Assists brokers with applications by entering data into Agency Management system referencing manuals or guidebooks, determines class codes, and verifies submission of required application information. Performs policy changes within authority level and completes process by sending declarations to agents. Acts as an intermediary between Grinnell Mutual agents and outside insurance carriers.


    • Enter online applications for broker review by entering applicable information into remote policy quoting systems.


    • Generate billing invoices for services provided to agency and direct accounts.


    • Responds to agent inquiries by telephone and email.



    • Compiles broker request for information for new and renewal account applications and collects data.



    • Submits required forms to agents to solicit renewal quotations.



    • Acts as a liaison between agent and broker.



    • Analyzes, reviews, and gathers information needed to accurately assess risk prior to transferring to the broker.



    • Communicates policy information and information requests to agents, insureds, and underwriters by telephone, email or fax.



    • Uses external systems and other third-party software, on a frequent basis, to obtain rating coverage information needed for analysis of quotes, new business applications, and policy change requests.


    • Provides first line of support to agents to provide answers to questions or elevate to the broker.



    • Contacts Grinnell Mutual agents by telephone or in person to promote Grinnell Specialty Agency services and products.



    • Performs other duties as assigned

    • The Grinnell Specialty Assistant Broker deals with many types of people which can be stimulating yet demanding and stressful.


    • The work environment is one generally encountered in a typical office environment; noise level is relatively quiet and occasional stress is encountered when dealing with challenging customers.





    • Associate’s degree from accredited college and six months related (office, customer service, or insurance) experience; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.


    • Knowledge of insurance with possibility of possessing personal lines, commercial lines and excess/surplus lines Iowa agent’s license or complete exams to become licensed.



    • Ability to provide a high level of customer service, including delivering timely responses when communicating with agents, insureds and Grinnell Mutual employees.



    • Demonstrated ability to write business correspondence.



    • Ability to provide a high level of customer service using advanced interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills to resolve difficult situations or problems


    • Ability to think logically and make decisions using personal judgment, experience, known facts and figures while following company procedures.


    • Ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities and projects as required by business need and within a regimented time schedule.


    • Ability to use general office equipment and demonstrate basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.


    • Ability to complete simple mathematical functions on a calculator, e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide.



    • Ability to follow directions, be cooperative, and work as part of a team.


    • Ability to enter data at a rate of approximately 85 kspm.


    • Ability to keep a regular work schedule and maintain regular, predictable attendance.



    • Ability to process and complete repetitious work. Ability to act honestly and ethically when performing job duties or representing the company meetings and outings.



    • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license for travel to and from business meetings and outings.
