  • Overview

    Establishes and maintains business relationships with mutual managers, staff, and boards of mutual reinsured by Grinnell Re. Provides consulting services for member mutuals on reinsurance programs and products as well as general insurance operations. Identifies and develops business relationships with prospective mutual members. 

     

    The primary territory for this position includes Indianapolis, Indiana and Columbus, Ohio.

    Responsibilities

    • Collects, reviews, and extracts data from each mutual’s Annuals Financial Statement to complete a reinsurance trend analysis. Analyzes data and presents findings to mutual management and Board of Directors. Answers in-depth questions from mutual management regarding specific financial categories and trends found in the analysis.

     

    • Serves as a general resource and first point contact for member mutuals.

     

    • Attends member mutuals Board of Director’s meetings and presents on various topics. When applicable, identifies concerns and opportunities; and presents appropriate recommendations in an effective and tactful manner.

     

    • Completes operations reviews for member mutuals.

     

    • Facilitates and conducts Strategic Planning session for mutuals board of director’s meetings.

     

    • Develops long-term action plans for members mutuals and facilitates progress; with the principal goal of success for the member mutual and a mutually beneficial relationship between the member mutual and Grinnell Re.

     

    • Reviews reinsurance program performance and effectiveness and makes appropriate recommendations to be considered by reinsurance leadership. Collaborates with reinsurance leadership to develop necessary reinsurance programs and pricing.

     

    • Attends various state association and industry events for marketing and educational purposes.

     

    • Presents renewal reinsurance programs and pricing to member mutuals.

     

    • Actively markets to prospective new member mutual, gathers information, participates in reinsurance program development and pricing, and presents proposals to management and boards of prospective mutuals.

     

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree (B.A) from a four-year accredited college or university and three to five years marketing or property and casualty insurance related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

     

    • Insurance designations, or progression towards completion, such as CPCU, Are, ARM, CIC, or IIA preferred.

     

    • Ability to communicate in person and/or telephone. Demonstrate effective writing skills to develop a variety of status reports to communicate information to agents, mutuals, and home office personnel. 

     

    • Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, when discussing the customer’s needs while suggesting GMRC product and service options.

     

    • Ability to provide a high level of customer service using advanced interpersonal and communication skills to resolve difficult situations or problems. 

     

    • Ability to think creatively to suggest innovative ideas and solutions.

     

    • Ability to use personal judgment, experience, known facts and figures to make decisions and resolve problems.   

     

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects as required by business need.  

     

    • Ability to function independently, goal oriented, persuasive and able to work in a team environment with limited supervision.  

     

    • Ability to use general office equipment including a telephone, personal computer and demonstrate basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products as well as general computer applications.

     

    • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and travel from the office located in the employee’s home to Grinnell Mutual or Grinnell Mutual customer offices. Overnight travel is required approximately 20 - 60% of time depending on region size.
