  • Overview

    The Project Manager applies knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to coordinate end to end activities and meet overall requirements of projects and programs that are large in size or highly complex in nature. Delivers value to the enterprise by exhibiting knowledge area and Grinnell Mutual competencies in conjunction with leading applicable processes to plan, execute, monitor, control, and close projects. 

    Responsibilities

    • Leads and directs multiple projects simultaneously, spanning across functional areas to deliver according to stakeholder expectations, corporate budget, and quality standards.

     

    • Acts as a primary point of contact for project stakeholders regarding all aspects of assigned projects including but not limited to delivering status, scope negotiation, and delivery dates. Proactively seeks stakeholders and plans communication tasks with the project team.

     

    • Collaborates with the project team to build, and ensure buy in with, a comprehensive project schedule. Works with the team to identify appropriate technical and business resources needed for the project team. Coordinates with resource managers to secure necessary project team resources.

     

    • Elicits assumptions, constraints, dependencies, and risk from project stakeholders. Documents and communicates these components to inform decision making. Facilitates analysis, planning, monitoring and control of project risk to minimize impact on the project.

     

    • Ensures projects are completed at a high quality level on schedule, within budget, and the business and technical requirements of the initiative are met by implementing agreed upon plan and holding individual contributors accountable. Monitors and reports progress.  

     

    • Maintains and retains all project documentation produced by project team in an organized fashion for record and future reference.

     

    • Contributes to organizational process assets, shapes and supports Grinnell Mutual specific processes, and creates and leverages reusable tools and templates; all to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of project delivery. 

     

    • Remains current with technology trends, evaluates their feasibility, and applies to appropriate projects. Shares technical and analytical expertise with project team for incorporation. 

     

    • Mentors Associate Project Managers to assist with individual growth as well as overall enterprise capability maturity.

     

    • All other duties as assigned. 

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a minimum of three years project management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  

     

    • Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar designation in project management preferred. Agile experience a plus. 

     

    • Must possess the ability to understand complex insurance terminology and property/casualty/farm insurance products. Experience with the insurance, specifically property & casualty, a plus.  

     

    • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office products with proficiency in use of project management software.

     

    • Ability to coordinate and deliver project results through people and resources without direct authority. Must be able to work with multiple interruptions.  

     

    • Demonstrated ability to analyze/solve problems, broker consensus, manage change, facilitate prioritization when faced with conflicting priorities, demonstrate flexibility and insight to drive beneficial contributions from others, and positively interface with stakeholders at all levels. 

     

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to connect audiences of various sizes, backgrounds, project knowledge, and levels within the organization.

     

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and proprietary information. Follows corporate policies and procedures as established.  

     

    • Ability to work in a harmonious manner with co-workers, supervisor, customers, and general public.  

     

    • Ability to keep a regular work schedule and maintain predictable attendance.

     

    Working conditions and physical efforts

    • The Project Manager may be required to work overtime to meet project needs.  

     

    • The position is physically located in the home office with a work environment of a typical office setting; noise level is relatively quiet and occasional stress is encountered as deadlines approach. The position requires an individual to sit for long periods of time, and complete work with computer keyboard and monitor. Typically includes repetitive movement and visual acuity.

     

    • Requires regular and predictable attendance to meet customer service demands.
